Hsinchu, Taiwan–(COMMERCIAL WIRE)–Edgecore Networks, a leading provider of traditional and open networking solutions for enterprises, data centers and telecom service providers, today announces the launch of the world’s first full-stack OpenWiFi hotel solution for ISP and MSP customers, marking the way forward marking the beginning of the OpenWiFi business model created in collaboration for hotels.
by edgecore Open and interoperable hospitality solution It is powered by ecCLOUD™, one of the first OpenWiFi 2.0 TIP-based enterprise controllers that can manage hundreds of thousands of Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) from both Edgecore and any other hardware vendor with OpenWiFi software support. In addition, the Edgecore EAP104, the world’s first open hospitality dedicated Wi-Fi access point and multi-dwelling unit (MDU), works not only with Edgecore ecCLOUD, but also with any OpenWiFi TIP-compliant controller.
The agility to deliver network management and application services in a fast-changing and demanding environment is critical to success in the hospitality and MDU markets. However, existing proprietary network infrastructures hamper the development of innovative application services and hinder effective cost control. In view of this, Edgecore has actively led the adoption of OpenWiFi by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) to unlock the limitations and create an OpenWiFi compatible infrastructure with business expansion value, rewriting the nature of hotel Wi-Fi networks. ISPs and MSPs are now no longer tied to a single vendor, but can flexibly choose to mix and match different cloud controllers, Wi-Fi access points, and switches. And, by using an open API to rapidly develop application services, whether self-developed or in cooperation with external partners, the time to launch new services and new applications is greatly shortened. All of this significantly reduces CAPEX and operating costs and reduces TCO by up to 50%.
Chris Busch, Co-Chairman of TIP Open Converged Wireless, said: “TIP has been dedicated to strengthening the global OpenWiFi ecosystem by working closely with Wi-Fi industry leaders. Edgecore’s expertise in cloud controllers has made the OpenWiFi 2.x stack accessible and practical, unleashing countless possibilities for innovation for ISPs and MSPs. We believe this is a highly scalable and efficient solution for hospitality providers around the world.”
ecCLOUD and Edgecore Wi-Fi APs use the latest version of TIP OpenWiFi 2.0, released for commercial use. TIP OpenWiFi 2.0 uses uCentral, a lightweight and agile communications framework that can dramatically reduce cloud hosting costs. In addition, the open architecture of TIP OpenWiFi enables Edgecore to work with application service providers to develop services including intelligent indoor location solution, network quality of experience (QoE), network security and other services. The Smart Indoor Location solution is now available for trial use, and the world’s first TIP OpenWiFi AP dedicated to hospitality and MDU, EAP104, will be available for trial appointments from now on, officially launching in Q3 2022 .
To accelerate the development of innovative ecosystem applications based on TIP OpenWiFi, Edgecore also offers a TIP OpenWiFi facilitation program, free of charge. As part of the program, users can remotely test TIP OpenWiFi through ecCLOUD without downloading the CloudSDK, accelerating the creation of their own TIP OpenWiFi-based solutions.
“Edgecore’s full-stack OpenWiFi hotel solution separates ISPs and MSPs from closed network infrastructures and introduces unlimited possibilities for innovation and business potential. As one of TIP’s first and active OpenWiFi partners, Edgecore Networks will continue to work with TIP to grow the OpenWiFi ecosystem together globally.” said Tengtai Hsu, vice president of Edgecore Networks.

About the telecommunications infrastructure project
The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is a global community of companies and organizations driving infrastructure solutions to advance global connectivity. Half of the world’s population is still not connected to the Internet, and for those who are, connectivity is often insufficient. This limits access to the multitude of commercial and consumer benefits that the Internet provides, affecting GDP growth globally. However, the lack of flexibility in current solutions, exacerbated by a limited choice of technology providers, makes it difficult for operators to build and upgrade networks efficiently. Founded in 2016, TIP is a diverse membership community that includes hundreds of companies, from service providers and technology partners to system integrators and other connectivity stakeholders. We’re working together to develop, test, and deploy open, disaggregated, and standards-based solutions that deliver the high-quality connectivity the world needs, now and for decades to come.
